Barraclough Tournament victory for Vosses

Congratulations to Jo and Jonathan Voss, winners of this year’s Sheila Barraclough Tournament, held on Sunday September 3.

The tournament, named in memory of club founder member Sheila Barraclough who died in 2018, was due to be held in July but had to be postponed due to poor weather. But at the second time of asking the weather came good with as fine a September Sunday as you could want.

Despite a few apologies due to family commitments, holidays and injuries, twelve playing members took part in the American tournament, an ideal number meaning all three courts were occupied throughout the afternoon and no one had to sit out waiting.

Jonathan topped the men’s group with 23 points from four rounds of eight games with Jo as top lady with 21 points.

The evening finished with the presentation of the trophy by Sheila’s husband, Bernard, who commended the club members for maintaining the memory of his wife, who had played such a major role in the establishment of the tennis club and the playing fields association. Afterwards players and spectators alike enjoyed a Jacob’s Join tea.
