Each Monday and Friday morning – throughout the year – a group of members turn out to play tennis. You don’t have to be a good player, just sociable and wanting to enjoy a game. If you want to join in just turn up at about 9.30 a.m. or telephone Mike Smith (01729 824272)
The emphasis is on everybody getting a chance to take part, so we play doubles, “the best of four games”, before changing partners and possibly having a sit down, a cup of coffee and a good gossip. There are Monfris of all ages. Currently the oldest (and one of the best) is eighty and a couple of young members, still at school and not yet into their teens, have been made welcome.
Most of the club’s social events are organised by Monfris and they even indulge in trips abroad, ostensibly to play tennis. A few years ago they went to La Manga three times and Portugal once.
Many new members have found their way into the club via the Monfris, so don’t be shy!
The “Monfris” began some years ago when four lady members decided to do their own thing and make Mondays and Fridays a regular date.
These sessions are currently organised in a way necessary to comply with the LTA guidance on coronavirus https://www.lta.org.uk/about-us/tennis-news/news-and-opinion/general-news/2020/march/coronavirus-covid-19—latest-advice/
