Good turnout for Sheila tournament
Twenty players took part in the club’s fourth annual American tournament held in memory of club founder member Sheila Barraclough, who died in 2018.
The winners, Beccy Bullock and Alastair McDougall, received the trophy from Sheila’s husband, Bernard, who said his wife would have been delighted to see the club in such good health. The American tournament format allows players of different ability to compete alongside each other on an equal basis and this tournament, held on September 1, saw first team regulars join in with the Monfris and some members who had only recently taken up the sport.
Despite some heavy showers the players were joined for a Jacob’s Join tournament tea by a number of spectators, including, remarkably, 96 year old Arthur Riley, a long time club member who had cycled to the event.
