Sheila Shield victory for Sarah and Marco

Club members Sarah Llewellyn and Marco Frik are the 2022 winners of the Sheila Barraclough Shield. The trophy, which is named in memory of one of the club’s founder members who died in 2018, was presented by Sheila’s husband Bernard following the annual American Tournament held on Sunday July 24.

Despite several interruptions for rain, the tournament was completed in front of a group of hardy spectators and followed by a Jacob’s Join enhanced by generous quantities of Pimms.

Twelve playing members took part and there were at least as many spectators. It was a particular pleasure to welcome back former club members Roger and Joan Mitchell and also Ann Haydock, who did a splendid job in organising the rounds and keeping the score.

The tournament also provided an opportunity to say farewell to former club treasurer and B team captain Pam Mueller who recently moved out of the area. Pam was presented with a certificate giving life membership of the club, together with a gift in recognition of her contribution to the club over many years.
