Lockdown 2 and AGM 2020

In common with tennis courts across England, we had to stop play on November 4 2020 and, subject to any changes in the Covid 19 regulations, will not be allowed to resume any form of either social or competitive play until December 2.

We did however hold our AGM, on line, on November 11. Pam Mueller stepped down as treasurer after seven years and has been replaced by Robert Burdett. All the other officers remained in post and Pam has taken on responsibility for liaising with the Austwick Playing Fields Association, a particularly important role at a time when the PFA are looking to improve and make greater use of the club house. Robert Bellfield has joined the committee, sharing responsibility for maintenance with Graham Jarvis and Robert Burdett.

In his annual report, club chair Mike Smith said that despite the major disruption caused by the Covid 19 regulations – the ban on all tennis in the spring, the cancellation of the summer league season, the early end of the 2019-2020 winter vets and the current disruption to play, the club was nevertheless now in a stronger position than at the last agm with more members and greater cash reserves. The fact that we had run a successful coaching sessions with Euli Lempen from Skipton had been a big factor in introducing youngsters to the game and in a number of cases prompting their parents to join the club. We now have two teams in the mid-week winter vets and hope to enter three teams in the Wharfedale League next summer, with the ladies team now in the first division of Bradford Parks.
