Ian Plimmer

Ian Plimmer, who was one of the stalwarts of Austwick Tennis Club over many years died in December 2019 following a long illness. Ian was the club representative on Austwick Playing Fields Association and as such played a crucial role in liaison between the club and the Association which is responsible for the playing fields and various sections – including bowls and cricket as well as tennis. He played an important role in the development of the Multi-Use Games Area, which has been a great addition to the facilities provided by the playing fields and serves as a third court for tennis when required for league matches.

As a keen cyclist  Ian would regularly go for a lengthy ride in the morning, before opening the courts for the MonFris social tennis. Always a cheerful presence, Ian bore his illness with remarkable fortitude and good humour continuing to cycle and play tennis until the last few weeks of his life. He will be greatly missed.
