Club AGM

The club AGM was held at the club house on Monday 12 November 2018. The three officers and committee were all re-elected and it was agreed to keep membership fees at £40 for 2019.

In his report on the year club Chair Mike Smith said he was delighted that for the first time in the club’s history we have a player in the Yorkshire Top Ten rankings. Well done Tom Horsfall! Thanks go to Pam Whitehead for her early coaching of Tom and to club members for their continued support. Tom’s success highlights the need to continue club coaching.

It had been a mixed year for the teams, The Ladies Bradford Parks Team have been promoted to the 2nd Div. In the Wharefdale League the A Team finished mid Div 1, the B Team’s relegation to the 3rd Div was disappointing but hopefully they will gain promotion next year. Given a the shortage of players it was inevitable the C Team would struggle but on a positive note it is highly likely we will have sufficient men to field a team in the Kendal Men’s League in 2019, thus offering a wide range of competition for all abilities to enjoy. Mike has had a positive response so far from the Kendal League.
There are a number of opportunities for social tennis. Sunday mornings continues to be popular and weekday afternoons could be developed further. Monfries also continues Mon and Fri mornings.
Mike commented on the very sad recent death of Sheila Barraclough who was a founder member of the club and played at Austwick from 1977 until her latter days. He thanked Ian Greenhalgh for his fitting eulogy for Sheila and would like the club to consider some sort of memorial, subject to Bernard’s approval.
