News and review of 2018 league season

The club enjoyed mixed fortunes over the course of the summer 2018 season.

The good news was that ladies’ team, which re-joined the Bradford Parks League this year after a two year absence, topped division three, securing promotion to the second division at their first attempt.

The A team also did well finishing fifth out of the nine teams in the first division of the mixed doubles Wharfedale League, with Tom Horsfall and Chloe Robinson dropping only a handful of sets all season.

However, the bad news was that the B team, after fighting off relegation for several seasons, this year finished bottom of the second division with just four wins out of 16 matches and will play in the third division next year. The C team did even less well propping up the third division with just a single drawn game to their credit. As a result the club has decided to field just two mixed doubles teams next year, the A team in the top division and the B team in the third.

Winter Vets League starts here

In the meantime, tennis continues throughout the winter. This year we are entering a team in the Lancaster and Morecambe based winter vets league. Last year we joined up with the Kirkby Lonsdale club and played as Kirkby Wicks B, but this year we are competing in our own right and our home games will be at Austwick on Monday afternoons.

Thursday afternoon social tennis

Social tennis also continues over the winter and starting  on September 20, we are introducing regular Thursday afternoon social tennis starting at 2pm – weather permitting. The aim is to play, friendly but competitive doubles, as we do our regular Sunday morning session. New members and potential members are welcome to come along and join in. And for those who prefer the emphasis on the social side there are always the MonFris who meet on Monday and Friday mornings from 9.30am mixing social tennis with coffee.

With annual subscription rates of just £40 per adult with reductions for juniors and special rates for families we are not just a friendly club in a great setting but also the cheapest in the area.
