An online tennis ladder has just been added to the website, under "Club Tennis" for anyone wanting to play mens singles. We are basically trialling an online system because it potentially offers the following advantages:
1) Ladder administration is simplified and can be done from home. 2) The ladder rules are enforced by the system. For example, the system will not allow you to challenge someone who is more than 3 places above you. 3) Challenges can be made online, and email reminders are automatically sent out by the system 4) Results are recorded for posterity. 5) Multiple ladders can be supported in the future. The ladder administrator will keep the wooden tennis ladder in the clubhouse up to date on a regular basis. If you are interested in joining the ladder please follow the link from the menu and register yourself. The rules of the ladder can be found under "Information". Challenges can be made online by going to the "Rank" page and clicking on the person you wish to challenge. Results?can be viewed and entered on the "Results" page. Simon Plumbridge Ladies Doubles30th August saw the Ladies Doubles take place. Short on numbers, but not on quality. The draw put Pam Whitehead and Barbara Eveleigh up against Ruth and Katie Rogers, and Tracey Worthington and Beccy Hunt against Pam Mueller and Chloe Robinson. Pam and Chloe put up a sprirted performance against Tracey and Beccy, with Chloe and Tracey having some amazing base line rallies. The experience and strength of Tracey and Beccy pulled them through in straight sets. The other match was a very topsy turvy affair with Pam and Barbara pulling out to a substantial first set lead before losing it in a long hard fought tie break, in fact the other match had finished before this match had completed it's first set. The second set was much the same as the first wirh Ruth and Katie overcoming a deficit of 3 games, coming out winners in straight sets. After a suitable rest and lunch interval the final got underway. Tracey and Beccy took the first set comfortably, and looked to be on thier way to victory, but Katie and Ruth were having none of it, taking the second set convincingly. The third set was a very tense affair, with lots of unforced errors, both pairs could have won it, but Ruth and Katie were the stronger, just. Congratulations to them.
Mens DoublesWe had a rather damp day for it. but that didn't stop some excellent tennis. The draw put Alistair and Mark up against Andy and Simon, the later pair being disappointed with the draw, but they put a very good performance, which should do their confidence no end of good. Craig and Neale took on Guy and Nick, and again we had a very entertaining game, with Nick playing an inspired game at the net, unfortunately to no avail. After a long rain break (it's not just wimbledon that suffers in that department) the final got underway. We had some great rallies and net exchanges, with Alistair and Mark coming out on top in straight sets. Well done. Pam Annual Dinner
